Hi, I’m Jack from ownkeyboards.com and Welcome to my new post! if you are looking to buy the “Best” Piano Keyboard then you will love what I have done for you… I have made a buyers guide and shared with you a few tips how to choose the piano keyboard that is right for you.

In addition to that I have created a list where you are going to find my top 15 recommendations of the best Piano Keyboards in 2019, so I hope you will gain a bit information by reading the following post.

How to Pick The Best Piano Keyboard?

Here ill help you in a few steps to set your mind to know what kind of keyboard or piano keyboard is right for you.

1. Consider what kind of musician you are

There are 2 basic types of musicians a Pianist and a Keyboardist

  • If you are Pianist, you will want to buy a Piano Keyboard with “Grand Piano Weighted Keys” because it will give you an awesome piano feel like you are playing on a real Grand Piano.
  • If you are a Keyboardist, that means you love to play as a One Man Band then I would suggest you to buy a Keyboard with a big selection of Sounds and Styles you can play around in your song.

2. Consider what size keyboard you want

  • There are several sizes in keyboards, you can go with the basic 61 Key or if you want you can choose an 88 Key Piano Keyboard.
  • So if you are a “pianist” you will probably want to go with more keys but if you are just a good “keyboardist” then a 61 key Keyboard would do an amazing job for you.

3. Make a budget

  • Decide how much money you want to spend on a new keyboard since this market starts from cheap products and goes all the way up to very expensive products.
  • I personally would recommend you that if you want to buy an expensive keyboard then you should start saving a bit money every week and when it piles up you can buy your favorite keyboard you have been dreaming. (It pays to wait 😜)

Buying your keyboard

I hope you have find helpful my post and no you have a bit more information about Piano Keyboards.

And i hope you have decided which keyboard is right for you so you can come to the next step of buying it if you haven’t yet.

However make sure to deal carefully with your keyboards since it can be damaged with one drop to the floor, keep it in a safe place.

It would be great and responsive from your side to buy a dust cover if you leave your keyboard always in a set up position, since it will be very hard for you to clean your keyboard from dust that went inside your keyboard and can cause light damages in your machine.

If you are going to travel a lot with your keyboard i would highly recommended you invest in a good keyboard case so it will prevent from being damaged while traveling, just make sure you are buying the right keyboard case that fits your keyboard size.

It is always a great thing to read the users manual of your keyboard to get the best out of your keyboard and to get to know the features you are getting with your keyboard and how to use it the right way.

Yamaha YPG-235 review - One Man Band Korg Pa4x Review - Amazing Features!

  1. Awesome post jack i love the way you write you are much better than others. i’m still thinking which keyboard i should buy, i will probably go with the WK-6200

  2. Hi, Jack. I used to have a Casio Keyboard and I gave it away to one of my friends when I transferred to another country. Now, I have gotten myself the Yamaha Keyboard. I find that the tones and sounds of the Casio keyboard I had previously are better than my current Yamaha. I am not sure if it is the brand or because my current Yamaha has the Grand Portable Piano features. Or is it because I’m not used to the sound or tone as I find it a bit plain to me. Would love to hear from you. Thank you!

    1. It would be great if you’ll share the Keyboard Models, Like this I might be able to help you more accurate.

  3. I really appreciate your website information. Its current info and very informative. Saves me doing all the work.
    Thank you

  4. Hi Jack. I enjoyed this post because I am a keyboard player who performs on stage and I have a small program teaching piano. The descriptions you give are very helpful because most people who want a keyboard are not quite sure what would suit them. A visit to you tube, for each one, would also demonstrate your descriptions. I agree with you about your choices. I prefer Korg and Yamaha keyboards but your selections are good and you have shown a good variety to suit different needs. Best wishes !! Thank you !!

  5. Hey Jack. i love what you have done. in my opinion this is the best piano keyboard review i came across here in 2018. i love the buying guide you added it helped me decide which keyboard is right for me.
Believe it or not i went with the “Korg Pa4x 61 key” since it has all the features i was looking for and also i can afford that,
i am really thankful to you for doing such a great job i can see the hard work that went into this post.
    wishing you all the best!

  6. Hi Jack. Thanks for your very informative posts. I’ve been looking for a keyboard for my granddaughter. I was after something that would be great for her to learn on. I liked the sound of your first option the Yamaha YPG235. Its not to expensive and seems easy to use. Not that I’m an expert on keyboards, What are your thoughts. Jim

    1. Nice to hear, the YPG235 should be an excellent choice for anyone especially for beginners, very reasonable price for this great instrument.

  7. Its funny I was just looking at the Yamaha Tores5 and thinking that would be a great keyboard for me. I used to play the piano and have a huge liking for EDM so its funny that you mentioned it would be good for that. The lack of a touch screen isn’t too big of a deal. Great read, I will be following your articles.

  8. Hi Jack. I am a muso and a singer and I love your website. I want to out right now and buy a Korg as it sounds stunning for any pianist. you have gone into such great detail on every piano/keyboard and your reviews are really honest unlike some other sites I have been too, so thank you.
It is so great too read an article from someone who is quite obviously a music lover so thank you

  9. Great article on the best piano keyboards of 2018! There are so many different options on the market and I know from personal experience that trying to find the right one can become overwhelming very quickly. I love your explanation between what a ‘keyboardist’ is vs a ‘pianist’ as well because I feel like many people aren’t aware that there is a difference between the two.

I think my favorite is the Casio WK245, love how sleek it looks!

  10. Hi Jack thanks for this nice post about piano keyboards which is loaded with great information i really like how you provide good tips about buying a piano keyboard.

  11. Hi Jack,
Thank you for the awesome review. However, I still can’t decide which one should I buy. I’m a classical pianist. I have a grand piano, and an 88 electrical piano. However, I’d like to have more fun with the one man bank type of keyboard. Would love to have your input. I’m leaning toward Korg or Yamaha. Also if you could recommend other accessories to come with the keyboard, i’d very appreciate that.

    Catherine

    1. Hey Catherine thanks for your amazing feedback

Since you are a fantastic pianist – and decided now to have some fun playing keyboard as a one man band, i would recommend ‘not’ going with a 61 key keyboard since you are used to play at an 88 key,

My #1 recommendation for you would be the awesome Yamaha YPG-535 i have listed above (#3)
Because of its advanced keyboard features and 88 weighted keys you will still be comfort-able playing ‘keyboard’ as you used to play ‘piano’.

Thank you & Have a great time!
      Jack

  12. I bought a Korg a couple years back and have had an excellent experience with it. It’s easy to use and I can literally create anything with it. I enjoyed reading reviews of some of the other models as well and maybe in time I’ll have a go at the Yamaha, as it seems you’re high on them! I’ve heard positive reviews from Yamaha products time and again.

    1. Korg is actually my top favorite keyboard since they did an outstanding job creating the awesome Korg Pa4x that have not been beaten yet by any other keyboard model since its release,
But i do like yamaha a lot because of its cheap price ranges for real excellent keyboards with cool features and sounds which you’ll not find by Korg for that price.

  13. Hi Jack,
I have a question for you. I’ve been playing guitar and keys off and on for years, non professional
intermediate at best. I have just decided now that I”m older that I prefer the keys, I love 80’s music, blues, rock and pop, Elton john, Billy Joel etc. I have owned a Yamaha p85 for over 10 years and again just kinda messed around with it over the years but now I’m series about playing.
I’d like to play blues boogie 80’s rock what ever I can at piano bars, coffee shops busking etc, It will take me a good year I feel before I’m confident enough. I will probably be playing by myself at first and possibly a band or just one other person in the future. I want new technology and I have been looking at the Roland Juno DS88, The Yamaha DGX-660 and lastly the Yamah Modx 8. I want the capiblity to do anything by myself if I have to. I love the feel of the roland keys but not crazy about the sounds, the Yamah dgx 660 plays great love the keys but seems for like a piece of furniture and not too portable. This leaves me liking the Yamaha MODx8, It seems to have everything I woud ever need. I also don’t want to buy a keyboard and have to sell it again in a few years for upgrade. I feel I will also grow into learning all the nuances and features I would never get board with. However It’s a fraction of the cost of the Korg workstation. I’d love to hear your opinon or guidance on what you suggest I do. I’m also trying to sell my guitars and Yamaha keyboard with not a lot of luck everyone is lowballing. This is why I want to buy something that will last me many years to come. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. I would prefer any Yamaha with weighted keys, Since you focus on sound quality you’ll receive beautiful sounds for much cheaper than Korg.
